Green-laning to come under police scrutiny

Drivers in Wales who feel that they can enjoy a few sneaky off-road thrills without compromising their chances of receiving a competitive motor insurance quote ought to think again.

The BBC reports that a new initiative by Welsh police aims to stamp out off-road thrill seeking by keeping a close eye on drivers who indulge in the activity.

Often referred to as "green-laning", the activity is particularly popular in Wales because of the country's predominance of countryside. Another key reason the activity has become so popular is Wale's reputation as the UK capital for speed cameras.

Currently, nearly 40% of all recorded driving convictions in Wales are provided by speed camera evidence and their use is proving extremely unpopular.

Around 75% of Welsh drivers feel that speed cameras are not only a potential hazard to their chances of receiving a cheap motor insurance quote but also a dangerous and distracting road hazard in themselves.

Digg!
