Car insurance advice for avoiding snow related car accidents
Insurance for young drivers will protect you if you have an accident in the current icy conditions that are gripping the country and causing chaos on the roads, but, the best thing is not to have an accident in the first place and various sources are offering tips for safe driving in the snow.
1. If you are planning a long trip, you should make sure you have food and drink, a blanket, extra warm clothing and a fully charged mobile phone in case you are stranded, have a breakdown or are involved in a car accident - breakdown services are flat-out at the moment and waits for their services may be long.
2. Always clear snow off your entire car as it can fly off while you are driving and it then becomes a hazard for other road users.
3. Drive in the highest gear that is practical as this can prevent wheel spin (except when descending a hill); pulling away in second gear may stop skidding.
4. Leave a larger distance between you and the vehicle in front as stopping distances will be far greater in slippery conditions.
5. Keep your focus and use common sense. You may not have to drive at a snail's pace, but high speeds are likely to cause accidents.
