MPs want premiums lowered for young drivers

Cheap car insurance is something that is but a dream for most young drivers, but this could be about to change thanks to a group of MPs who are calling for premiums to be reduced to encourage learners to spend more time in the car whilst supervised.

A report by the Transport Select Committee is aiming to see insurers reduce the price of a standard car insurance policy for new drivers in a bid to have them spend more time behind the wheel, learning the importance of safe driving.

A Whitehall source commented on the report and said: "In essence what the committee is worried about in the high costs that young people cannot afford and that they are instead choosing to drive uninsured.

"We want a reduction in uninsured drivers and high premiums are not helping. They should be lowered for supervised learners."

A spokesperson for Hoot Car Insurance Services, the cheap car insurance provider said: "This initiative would give many young driver car insurance customers the chance to lessen the worry of how they are going to finance their motor insurance and concentrate more on the aspects of safe driving."
