Police target Wigan's car criminals

Wigan residents with young driver car insurance might be interested to hear that the area's car crime rates have dropped by around 20% in the last year. The police have received 530 fewer individual reports of criminal activity during 2010 than they did during 2009.

There was also a significant reduction in instances of sat nav and mobile phone theft. This may be because people with young person's car insurance have heeded police advice to secrete their valuable items in secure places.

Another possible reason for the reduction in car crime rates is that modern vehicles are usually fitted with sophisticated anti-theft devices. This may provide an explanation for the rise in the number of car keys being stolen from people's homes.

Stuart Ellison, Superintendent of the Manchester Police Wigan Division, said, "We have achieved some superb reductions over the last 12 months, and this is down to the frequent operations we run to target offenders and the crime prevention advice we give to the public at every opportunity.

"But we need motorists to do their bit by continuing to take simple measures that can help reduce crime.

"To avoid cars keys being stolen during burglaries I would urge residents to keep them hidden, and they should also be kept away from doors and windows, as criminals can hook them through letter-boxes and open windows."

In related news, the Hertfordshire Constabulary have recently harnessed the power of YouTube to warn young drivers insurance holders of the dangers which car criminals can pose.
