Inexperienced drivers may make fewer insurance claims

Newly qualified Welsh motorists may have an improved chance of maintaining their young driver insurance no claims records, if Government road safety plans are approved.

As part of a mission to reduce the amount of road deaths in Wales by 50%, Carl Sargeant, the Welsh minister responsible for road safety, has announced a programme of "education, engineering and enforcement."

The Government will take demands to remove red tape into consideration when deciding the best means of improving road safety in partnership with the police.

Furthermore, it is expected that the motoring authorities will establish more severe punishments for those individuals who risk their lives and cheap car insurance by driving while under the influence of alcohol.

They may also remind Welsh drivers of the importance of keeping to the speed limit, especially in built up areas.

Mr Sargeant said, "Any death or serious injury that's caused as a result of a road traffic collision is unacceptable.

"Ensuring that we continue to reduce the number of road casualties in Wales is not only a personal priority for me by for the Welsh Government, which has been reflected by its inclusion as a Programme for Government commitment."

If forward strides are made in the prevention of accidents then it might become easier for new motorists to obtain affordable motor cover.
