Police catch two men stealing hearse

Two drunken men who stole a hearse with a dead person in the back could find it difficult to get a cheap motor insurance quote in the future.

The two South African males had been drinking with three women when they asked the ladies to give them a push start in the stolen hearse. The women swiftly contacted police and alerted them to the theft.

Police later found the men after the car ran out of petrol in Soweto. If charged with drink driving, they could see the cost of their motor insurance premiums rocket.

The driver of the hearse said that he had parked the vehicle outside his house to get some money for petrol, however, when he returned, the hearse had gone.

He added: "It is a shocking thing to realise there are people who could steal a hearse with a dead person inside.

"Going shebeen-hoping with a corpse takes care. What kind of people are these."

A spokesperson for Hoot Car Insurance Services, the provider of cheap motor insurance quotes, said: "It's quite disturbing that two men could steal a hearse with a deceased person in the back. It is just fortunate that the police managed to track them down."
