Dawn raids for dishonest motorists Honest motor insurance buyers from Lancashire will be glad to hear that a Blackburn speeding fine fraud scam has been discovered by police. Officers believe that a man, the head of the operation, spread word that he was able to pay speeding fines and accept penalty points for members of the public who had been caught speeding. Using fake identities and driving licences, the suspected ringleader, charged between £200 and £500 to enable motorists to tell the police someone else was driving the speeding vehicle at the time of the offence. During a series of early morning raids, police arrested 12 men and three women in connection with the fraud. They believe the scam may have been going on for five years at least; these initial arrests could be followed by many more. A police spokesperson, said, "Motorists should be aware that passing speed camera endorsements to another person is a serious criminal offence and anyone found to be breaking the law in this way will be dealt with robustly."
A Hoot spokesperson said, "As an online motor insurance supplier striving to give honest customers the best value car insurance rate possible, we are constantly amazed at how many people are willing to break laws in order to dodge a fine. We hope this police investigation will make dishonest motorists think very hard about committing a driving offence."
