Motor insurance quote news 22/11/2007
Uninsured crushed by policeIt seems that those being scared off by the price of motor insurance quotes who decide to take to roads regardless are increasingly feeling the strong arm of the law. Figures released during the ABI's annual motor conference show that people who do not take those vital steps of getting a motor insurance quote then buying a motor insurance policy are more than ever likely to be caught breaking the law. The chief reason for this is the growing use of number plate recognition technology. So far this year, 100,000 uninsured vehicles have been seized by police. This compares favourably to the figure for the whole of last year, which was just 78,000. Of the 100,000 cars seized this year, 45,000 have been crushed. Director of General Insurance and Health of the Association of British Insurers, Nick Starling, commented, "Uninsured drivers are a menace. They often drive unroadworthy vehicles, and the cost of compensating their victims adds an extra £30 a year to premiums paid by honest motorists. "These figures show that the determination of the insurance industry and the police to drive them from our roads is beginning to bear fruit. However, we need to ensure that the penalties they face reflect the seriousness of this crime." Spokesperson with online car insurance specialists Hoot, Mike Page, said, "There is no excuse for being uninsured as it can have catastrophic consequences to both the uninsured driver as well as other road users. "While an insurance premium is always a considerable investment, anyone who takes the time to look at our motor insurance quotes will see that, if you choose the right provider, a cost effective deal can be found."
