Banned biker saving up for next motor insurance quote

A teenage biker could be looking at a pretty substantial motor insurance quote next year after being banned for drink driving just a day after passing his test.

Suffolk police think it's the fastest disqualification in their county's history.

The teen, who drank three pints over lunch before setting off, said he felt 'a bit gutted' to have lost his licence after just 28 hours. Besides the 12 month ban, he must now pay £160 in fines and court costs.

"This is the quickest I have known someone be caught after passing their test," said Sergeant Steve Knight of the Halesworth Road policing unit.

"It sends a strong message that, regardless of your age and experience, you will be prosecuted when you are caught drinking and driving," he added.

"Even a cheap car insurance firm like ours will have to raise the price a little when it comes to this lad's next motor insurance quote," commented Mike Page of Hoot Car Insurance Services. "I expect it'll take him the best part of that 12 months to save up."
