The Motor Insurers' Bureau (MIB), which aims to compensate the victims of negligent uninsured drivers, has published a list of areas where a considerable proportion of motorists are without young persons car insurance.
It is reported that many drivers from Bordersley in the West Midlands have opted not to obtain cover. Motorists from areas in Essex, Manchester, and West Yorkshire were also found to have ignored laws stipulating the need for insurance.
Almost 30% of motorists in Bradford were reported to have taken the risk of driving without car insurance for young people. It is said that these law-breakers skew the national percentage rates, with 1.4 million drivers currently uninsured across the UK.
The Chief Executive of the MIB said, "We cannot stand by and let uninsured driving continue, otherwise the honest motorist will keep paying the bills for the injury and damage caused to people and property.
"We are determined to bring UK levels more in line with the rest of Western Europe and that is why the industry are committed to playing their part by making sure that motor policies are recorded on the MID."
Perhaps more drivers would look to purchase young persons car insurance if they were aware of the existence of the national database, which is regularly checked by the police.
