Young driver delayed in Aberystwyth by student car insurance company
A Newcastle consumer-rights journalist has come to the aid of a teenager from Otterburn, near Newcastle, when he was trapped in Aberystwyth after his student car insurance company took months to approve the repairs that his car needed following an accident.
Although the accident happened in February, his motor insurance company's investigation process dragged on until after the student's exams. As the exam period marked the end point of his time in his university's halls of residence, the young driver was forced to move into temporary accommodation until the repairs were completed.
Although the student ensured that the costs of his extended stay in Wales were kept to a minimum, the car insurance company refused to pay these costs. His angry mother approached the local paper and said: "His room was £70 per week and his food came to £60, so I don't think he took advantage."
The paper's consumer-rights journalist, 'Mr Justice', took the case on and before long, the motor insurance company made an offer of £140 to cover the expenses they had caused.
The undergraduate has not stated whether he will be approaching other car insurance companies for a young driver motor insurance quote in the future.
