New car insurance disc display scheme delayed until April
A new scheme due to be introduced in the Channel Islands that covers car insurance for young and other drivers is set to be delayed.
There were plans to require all motorists to display car insurance discs in windscreens from the end of 2008 but new laws have been unable to be drafted in sufficient time to enforce the new arrangements.
Car tax was scrapped in Alderney and Guernsey after the islands decided in 2006 to impose higher duty charges for fuel purchases.
The new windscreen display scheme is now due to begin on April 1, 2009. During last year, it was revealed that new car insurance discs could not be introduced until liaison was completed with more than 170 insurance firms.
Car insurance for young and more experienced drivers is affected by the new arrangements with all motorists being required to display discs showing their insurance cover.
