Renault concept car boasts online capability

Renault has unveiled a new concept car with a host of features designed to appeal to young drivers. The 'Twingo Concept' goes on display at the 2006 Paris Motor Show and, unlike other new driver models, its selling point is definitely not cheap car insurance.

The dashboard is awash with trendy gadgetry, sporting everything from a fold-out 15-inch computer screen with built-in webcam and an internet connection to a mini mixing deck, so you can re-hash your favourite driving songs without going back to the studio.

Sadly neither the decks nor the PC will turn on unless the car is parked - so there's no scratching on your mini-decks round the mini-roundabouts or playing Gran Turismo in traffic jams.

Also, it seems that if you've got a portable multimedia device - Apple's iPod or Nokia's Smartphone for preference, but pretty much any MP3 player, mobile phone, hand-held games console or similar will do - the new Twingo has a socket to amplify, charge, share or buy songs for it.

"This thing's got more gadgets than a branch of Dixons," said Mike Page, spokesman for the online car insurance experts at Hoot.

"Just imagine: you could use the internet connection to get an online car insurance quote from your driver's seat.

"Sure, that car insurance quote will probably cost a packet - but if you're rich enough to afford a car with these features you probably wouldn't bat an eyelid," he added.
