The Institute of Advanced Motorists, (IAM) recently claimed that many car crash victims could have suffered only minor injuries and made smaller-scale young driver car insurance claims, as oppose to sustaining serious injury, if they had been driving newer vehicles with a higher safety rating.
This revelation followed the release of a report showing that just under 50% of male motorists who lost their lives or sustained serious injuries during road accidents, were behind the wheel of vehicles aged 10 years or over.
The Director of Policy and Research at the IAM said, "It makes sense that any driver will take better care of a new car, and especially one which they're still paying for.
"Young drivers are the highest risk group on our roads and the insurance industry claims that 20 per cent of young drivers crash in their first year."
Anybody thinking of purchasing a new car is strongly advised to restrict their selection to models with an NCAP rating of three stars or more. In order to keep costs down it is also worth purchasing vehicles for which cheap car insurance is available.
A spokesperson for a company specialising in young driver car insurance said, "[the] obvious conclusion" of IAM's research is that young drivers are safer driving new, low-powered cars with more safety features."
