Beer more precious than life

An Australian motorist driving without car insurance in an unregistered vehicle has been fined for failing to secure a child into the back seat.

Two adults travelled in the front of the car, two in the back and the five year old child was found crouched on the floor.

Shockingly though, safely strapped into the back seat, secured by a seat belt, was a carton of 30 beers.

A Northern Territory police spokesperson said, "The concern is about people's priorities.

"You get a lot of people riding around without seat belts in remote communities here but it is very unusual to see someone go to the trouble of strapping in a carton of beer instead of a small child. That is the shocking thing."

The driver was fined $750 (Australian dollars).

The incident occurred in the Northern Territory just south of Alice Springs when two police officers decided to stop the driver after discovering the vehicle was unregistered and without car insurance.
