Man's chance of a cheap car insurance quote vanishes at 120mph
Speeding drink driver Laimonas Lukauskas continues our recent run of 'irresponsible motorist from Cambridgeshire' stories. The Peterborough resident made sure he won't be seeing a cheap car insurance quote any time soon by speeding down a stretch of the A1 near Sawtry on one of the worst nights in recent history - New Year's Eve. Traffic police clocked his VW Passat at 120mph. The weather was so bad that night that one of the officers who arrested Lukauskas "had his hat blown off several times," according to the Cambridge Evening News. In court, Lukauskas apologised for what he had done but claimed he'd only had two beers before getting behind the wheel that night. Breathalyser tests showed he was clearly over the limit, however. Magistrates issued a 12 month driving ban and ordered him to pay £290 in fines and court costs. "New Year's ought to be a night for new beginnings - but I'm not sure waking up behind bars was exactly what Lukauskas had in mind," said Mike Page, spokesperson for Hoot Car Insurance Services and an expert on cheap car insurance quotes. "Motor insurance rates on a Volkswagen capable of 120mph can't ever have been cheap," he added, "but they're about to get a whole lot worse for this guy."
