A large number of motorists in Scotland could face having to pay a higher premium on their online car insurance after choosing to ignore the drink driving warning.
It has been revealed that during the first week of an annual safety driving campaign, the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland stopped 131 motorists who had been driving under the influence of alcohol.
Officials have said that the latest statistics demonstrate how a number of drivers could be risking their cheap car insurance because the drink driving message doesn't appear to be hitting home.
Commenting on the issue, Chief Superintendent Mike McCormick said: "It's disheartening to see more drivers are showing positive or refusing to give a breath test."
The latest figures come following the recent news that the Department for Transport will be launching a £3 million campaign to limit the number of people having to claim of their young driver car insurance because of drink driving related accidents.
Commenting on the story, a spokesperson for Hoot Car Insurance Services, the online car insurance provider said: "The message is simple, don't drink and drive. Anybody who chooses to get behind the wheel after they've had a couple of drinks could face losing their cheap motor insurance premiums - and much more."
