The AA has warned cheap car insurance customers that they could be left stranded if their hire vehicle breaks down whilst abroad.
The online car insurance provider has put a warning out to all motorists who plan to travel in Europe this summer and may be thinking of hiring a car whilst they're there.
The recent study looked at 57 car hire companies in Turkey, Greece, Italy, Spain and Portugal and found that the majority of the rental firms failed to provide vital information for motorists using the vehicles.
Some of the points picked up in the study included failing to supply manuals, safety equipment and even a breakdown number to call in emergencies.
The head of AA Public Affairs said: "Holiday makers must accept that a hire car, like any other, may experience a problem. But it probably doesn't even cross their minds that rental firms could abandon them without an emergency number, or not provide them with the essential legal equipment.
"Operators should find ways to ensure this equipment is always in their vehicles, but customers must also take more responsibility and caution," the online car insurance firm's spokesperson finished.
