Online car insurance savings could go down the drain

You might get a great deal on your online car insurance but it seems you could be getting ripped off at your local garage.

According to Which?, a number of garages showed signs of "slack practices" when they failed to correctly identify five basic faults that researchers at Which? had made to a series of cars.

The vehicles were taken to 50 independent garages and franchised dealerships but out of the centres included in the study, only four managed to successfully identify and rectify all of the problems including low tyre pressure and low brake-fluid levels.

If a garage were to miss a fault on a car, it could severely put the driver at risk from a serious road accident and leave them with no alternative but to make a claim on their cheap car insurance.

The editor of Which? said: "Getting your car services is still a hit-and-miss affair. We've found a generally lax approach to servicing, unbelievable basic errors and cases of plain ineptitude."

Although it may be relatively easy to find a motor insurance provider where you can get the best online car insurance quote it could be much harder to find a garage that you can trust.
