NU says a third of drivers don't read policy documents

A shocking new report from online car insurance provider Norwich Union has revealed that a third of all insurance customers don't read the paperwork that comes with their policies.

As a result, 40 percent of people who have motor insurance don't know exactly what they're covered for, and 38 percent can't remember when it's going to expire.

Besides adding to the number of uninsured drivers on UK roads, this leads to many people overestimating the level of protection that's afforded by their car insurance policies.

For instance, over a third believe that they'll be covered automatically if their car gets stolen with the keys still in the ignition.

A spokesman for the online car insurance firm said: "Our research highlights a lack of understanding about insurance.

"Customers who do not know what they are covered for could face disappointment when claiming if their expectations are not met - something which could be avoided if they understood what is in their policy."
