The recent growth in popularity of online car insurance and price comparison websites is continuing apace, according to industry leader uSwitch.com.
The growth is due in part to the Department for Transport's decision to make motor insurance certificates available electronically as well as by post. According to uSwitch, it's a move which has prompted renewed interest in internet-based companies, as they can offer a substantially faster service than was possible before.
"You only have to look around you . to see insurance comparison sites are starting to advertise in the same spaces as traditional insurers," said a spokesperson for the online car insurance site.
"The internet is a fantastic tool for consumers," said Mike Page, spokesman for the Hoot Car Insurance Services.
"The DfT's decision comes in recognition of this emerging market, and it will also help to cement it in the public's consciousness," he added.
