A considerable proportion of UK motorists have opted to purchase young driver insurance online as they find it relatively easy to perform the research themselves, according to Defaqto.
The independent research company revealed that 86% of people knew of the benefits of arranging their policies on the web.
While some internet users have actively sought to obtain cheap car insurance for new drivers, others have managed to find comprehensive cover which offers financial protection against vehicle theft.
The Insight Analyst for General Insurance at Defaqto said, "People need to focus first and foremost on pinpointing the features they need from an insurance policy and identifying the policies that provide that cover."
He went on to say that drivers should take account of factors other than price when buying insurance. Apparently policies which appear relatively affordable may not provide cover against the loss of car keys or windscreen damage.

It was reported that drivers who fail to top their vehicles up with brake fluid and engine coolant are at an increased risk of having to make young driver insurance claims.
