Car insurance holders are violating the rules of the road

Many motorists with young driver car insurance are prepared to break the national speed limit, according to a recent survey.

A large proportion of these inexperienced motorists are also of the belief that it's alright to consume up to one and a half pints of beer, or equivalent alcohol, before taking to the roads.

These findings were published as road safety charity Brake and the Association of British Insurers (ABI) started a campaign to drastically change the learning-to-drive system.

While the survey results might come as a shock to experienced drivers, they will undoubtedly prove a cause for concern for parents who have funded the purchase of their son's or daughter's student car insurance.

There is likely to be a great deal of support for the campaign to place tight restrictions on young motorists. Major organisations have demanded the introduction of a driving curfew and a reduction of the drinking limit for inexperienced motorists.

A representative of Brake said, "We're calling for a commitment from Government for action to tackle young driver crashes, and the needless casualties that result. Young drivers and their behaviour hold the key to the future extent of carnage on roads."

A spokesperson for a company who provide young driver car insurance said, "There is a clear need to balance the freedom that driving gives to young adults with the responsibility to consider their own safety and that of other road-users."
