'Young driver of the Year' scheme promises cheap car insuranceThe launch of a new road safety initiative by Peugeot could see a drop in the number of accidents and the cost of car insurance for young drivers living in Coventry and Warwickshire. The 'Young Driver of the Year' competition is the result of a collaboration between Peugeot and the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM), and is sponsored by both Coventry and Warwickshire Councils. The scheme, which is aimed at 17 to 21-year-olds, will begin in September 2007 to coincide with sixth formers returning to school. Peugeot plans to run it annually for the next three years. "Peugeot is committed to improving safety amongst our younger population," said a spokesman. "If this initiative prevents one accident or serious injury it will be worth our three year investment." The Young Driver of the Year competition is just one of a number of Coventry-based projects to have been sponsored by Peugeot, which is a major employer in the area. "It's good to see car manufacturers getting involved in schemes which could potentially save lives and lead to cheaper car insurance for young drivers," said Mike Page, on behalf of UK car insurance firm Hoot Car Insurance Services.
