22-year-old Heather Darnell from Georgia, USA faces drink-driving charges after pulling out of a junction into oncoming traffic. She was struck by a Pontiac and subsequently hospitalised.
Police ruled Ancella Gragg, at the wheel of the Pontiac, couldn't have reacted in time to prevent the collision. Along with her two young passengers, Gragg was also taken to the ER.
But here's where it gets interesting: despite being charged with a traffic violation, Darnell wasn't actually driving a car. She was riding a horse.
And somehow it (the horse) survived.
"If you're on a public right-of-way, you're under the same jurisdiction as if you're in a car," said Georgia State Trooper Anthony Coleman, which raises all kinds of questions.
Mike Page, spokesman for the young driver car insurance experts at Hoot, had a few.
"Does that mean Heather needs young driver car insurance to ride her horse on the road?" he said. "If she was responsible for the collision, then she ought to face charges - but surely there are more appropriate charges available."
"Sounds to me like they're making a motor insurance claim out of a molehill," he added.
