Getting cheap car insurance for young drivers is about to become even more important following an announcement detailing rising costs in other areas of motoring.
The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) is planning to add new parts to the written test which would mean a £7 rise in cost, making it £28.50 in total. These new questions are thought to involve the consequences of driving without motor insurance or a licence.
Prospective motorcyclists may also see a rise in the cost of their practical driving test, although this is not yet confirmed.
It has also been announced that the cost of getting an MOT is going up by 14% to £50.35.
The shadow transport secretary Chris Grayling was critical of the increase, saying: "I suspect that the reason these (MOT) fees have gone up is to pay for yet another government computer system mess up."
Mike Page of Hoot Car Insurance Services commented: "These rises are the last thing that young people need when they are just getting behind the wheel - many can barely afford to run their cars as it is.
"Now it is even more essential to find the very cheapest car insurance for young drivers," he added.
