Emotional warning of road dangers
A DVD produced by the Grampian Fire and Rescue service is being shown to businesses, community groups and school children in Scotland in a bid to provide stark warning to youngsters about to purchase their young driver car insurance.
Three brave families have been filmed talking about the pain and suffering they have experienced after a road traffic accident in the hope that it will be influential in cutting the catastrophic death toll on the region's roads.
More than 100 people have been killed in car crashes in Grampian since 2006.
The devastated parents of three young road accident victims spoke emotionally on the DVD giving chilling accounts of the misery caused by careless driving.
The father of a 15-year-old girl, who died when the car she was a passenger in caught fire after a collision on the road, spoke about his grief.
He said, "The pain never gets easier. It still feels like yesterday she was taken away. There were no dental records or anything to identify her, just the rings and necklace she had on."
A spokesperson for the Grampian Fire and Rescue service commented that the film was one of the most emotional projects he had been involved with, but hopes that it will have the desired impact to make people think hard about their attitudes to driving.
A Hoot spokesperson said, "Young driver car insurance cannot keep you safe from harm. Any tool to aid road safety is of benefit to road users all over the country. We greatly admire the courage of the participants in the DVD."
