Young driver safety training cuts deaths and cost of cover

A young driver insurance study carried out in America has revealed that most fatalities in accidents involving teenage drivers tend to be other people and not youngsters behind the wheel.

Just under two thirds of those killed in such crashes across the United States are passengers, other vehicle occupants, cyclists, walkers and other road users.

About 37 per cent of deaths were of teenage drivers. As in the UK, the USA is trying to tackle the high number of road accident deaths involving young motorists.

Interestingly, driver education and training courses have started to drive down the death toll with a fall in fatality figures over the last decade.

According to the AAA (American Automobile Association), the US equivalent of the AA in Britain, helping teenagers drive more safely is keeping more road users alive and injury-free.

By improving road safety, the cost of young driver insurance can be lowered for motorists in this age group.
