Sainsbury's finds young drivers in the Midlands the most accident-prone

The cheap car insurance provider Sainsbury's Bank has released yet more damning statistics about young drivers, especially those from the Midlands.

In the six months between April and September 2006, their research shows an alarming 12 percent of drivers aged 17-24 had been involved in a RTA, putting this age range head and shoulders above the national average of just four percent.

These worrying findings won't come as too much of a surprise for young driver car insurance firms, however. They're well used to serving the most accident-prone section of the motoring community, and young driver motor insurance quotes are unlikely to be affected by Sainsbury's findings.

However, the research broke some new ground by examining the regional spread of accidents across Britain.

The regional swing was by no means as great as that concerning the age of respondents, but a still-significant spread of four percent was noted.

Six percent of drivers from the Midlands admitted to having crashed during the survey period, whereas in Scotland the figure was just two percent.

"I'm not sure if the regional disparity is enough to raise the price of car insurance quotes in the Midlands," said Mike Page, spokesman for the young driver car insurance experts at Hoot.

"I'd think twice before crossing the road in Birmingham, though," he added.
