Drivers warned not to be blinded by winter sun

Young drivers insurance customers, particularly those who are experiencing their first winter behind the wheel, have been warned of the dangers of driving in low winter sunlight by a UK motor insurance company.

Despite its beauty and seasonal charm, a leading motor insurance company has said the low winter sun could be behind a 10% surge in car accident insurance claims last December, with a proportion of these being made on young driver car insurance policies.

All seasoned drivers will be familiar with the situation: hardly able to see the road as a low winter sun on the horizon, spilling a bright blind spot on the vehicle windscreen.

In such instances it pays to be a trendy young drivers insurance customer with a pair of good quality sunglasses to hand.

Steve Chelton, Insurance Development Manager at Swinton, comments, "Drivers are always warned of the dangers when driving in snow and ice or driving in strong winds but a low lying winter sun is often overlooked. A spare pair of sunglasses should be a fundamental item in a driver's glove box."
