As hundreds of lorry drivers take to the roads of London in order to protest against rocketing fuel prices, motor insurance companies advise car drivers to check and shop around for the best car insurance rate they can find.
The protests came as haulage and transport companies find the average fuel cost for a lorry has risen sharply to around £1,000 a week.
It is also feared that a proposed 2p tax rise due to be implemented this autumn will be the death knell for many hauliers.
Labour MP, Ronnie Campbell said, "Fuel is already £5 a gallon in some places. the chancellor needs to cancel the 2p rise. "It's a tough one for the environmentalists, but unfortunately people at this time can't afford it."
A spokesperson for cheap motor insurance specialist, Hoot, said, "Shopping around for the best car insurance rate is an absolute must in the current financial climate. An online car insurance company such as Hoot could save you pounds on your premium."
