eBayers say smoking threatens cheap car insurance quotesThe question of whether smoking at the wheel constitutes a threat to driver safety and cheap car insurance quotes has divided motoring organisations, but according to eBayMotors.co.uk, public opinion is far less equivocal. 70 percent of people quizzed by the online auction site said that smokers should be banned from lighting-up at the wheel, and 50 percent felt that doing so was as dangerous as using a handheld mobile phone - a practice that is currently punishable with a £60 fine and three penalty points. Besides that, 30 percent of respondents admitted risking cheap car insurance quotes by taking their eyes of the road to light or stub out a cigarette. "Drivers who smoke at the wheel risk causing accidents on the road," said a representative for eBayMotors.co.uk. "They also stand to lose hundreds off the resale price of their cars." "Scientific studies haven't yet been able to prove the same link between smoking and dangerous driving as exists with mobile phone use, but clearly most people are already convinced," said Mike Page, spokesman for the young driver car insurance specialists at Hoot Car Insurance Services.
