Younger motorists in Britain looking to avoid the various pitfalls of a young driver insurance claim this winter could do worse than look to vehicle manufacturer Vauxhall's latest innovation, "snow socks" for cars.
The fabric socks have been designed with the express intent of giving vehicles extra grip on slippery, snow-ridden roads with a view to reducing car accident rates and, for younger road users, reducing the chances of needing to make a young driver insurance claim.
Vauxhall say that the new snow socks are better than winter tyres because they are less hassle and are "arranged at right angles in the direction of travel".
However, the snow socks are only effective at speeds of up to 50 mph and still require drivers to take care on the snowy and icy roads of winter.
A spokesperson with Hoot, specialists in restricted hours young driver insurance comments, "However comical the idea of socks for your car might seem, if they help reduce the winter road accident rate, it is fair to say that they can be viewed as a very serious lifesaver."
