Sunday paper recommends Ford Ka for cheaper motoring

The Ford Ka has been recommended by the Independent on Sunday newspaper for a young driver taking up law in London because it is a cheaper motoring option as well as providing lower cost student car insurance.

The Canadian male student is 18 years old and wanted to drive a classic, vintage Jaguar around the UK capital, expecting to pay zero road tax for the pre-1973 vehicle.

Apparently, classic car schemes - sometimes called cherished car insurance - would provide comprehensive cover if mileage was low. But such car insurance for young drivers is not available - he is simply too young aged 18.

As a result - with vintage Jag car maintenance also an issue - the Sunday newspaper writer wants the student driver to steer clear of older cars.

The young man's budget to buy a car and pay for insurance and repairs was almost £11,000 - but the Independent warns his motoring ideas would still be unaffordable in London.

So, the Independent's Car Choice column points him at a Ford Ka which is said to be a small, manoeuvrable and economic city car - and would benefit from low cost Ford car insurance.

Low cost is a by-word for the Ka - and featuring as a group two, the LL1LL bill is set to be at least reasonably cheap.
