iPhone app could help drivers with cheap insurance

Volvo, the Swedish car manufacturer, has just released an iPhone application for the next generation of young drivers car insurance motorists.

The freely available software has a vehicle locator, which may be of particular use to forgetful road users, and enables individuals to monitor and control parts of their car remotely.

For example, people who cannot find their car in a carpark can trigger their horn and indicators by using a special function on the app.

Owners of the Volvo XC90 may have already realised the value of their vehicle's blind spot warning system, which reduces the risk of accidents and subsequent student car insurance claims. Now they can also find out how much brake fluid, coolant and engine oil is remaining by tapping a few buttons on their iPhones.

The app even allows users to access information regarding the fuel level and average speed that their vehicles have been travelling at.

The President and CEO of the Volvo Car Corporation said, "The new mobile application transforms Volvo On Call from an emergency system to a useful convenience feature."

The makers of the Volvo On Call system were primarily concerned with providing direct access to an emergency service call centre in case of crashes or other emergencies. Vehicle owners could also benefit from having a link with their providers of young drivers car insurance in such instances.
