The Daily Mail reports that the cost of insurance premiums for younger motorists has increased by a mind-blowing 51 percent over the past 12 months, making it more important than ever before that those affected consider cheaper alternatives such as telematics insurance for young drivers.
Telematics insurance for young drivers allows policyholders to pay only for the miles that they need while also rewarding them for safe driving – a much needed option in a car insurance market which charges male drivers between the ages of 17 and 22 an average of £2,500 for a policy.
This is because, according to evidence presented to a Transport Select Committee earlier this year, male drivers under 21-years-of-age are 10 times more likely to be involved a road traffic accident than male drivers who are over 35.
And it is not only the frequency of accidents that deters motor insurance companies from offering cheap premiums to younger drivers – they are also more likely to be involved in expensive accidents which cause personal injury.
However, there are things that younger drivers can do to reduce the cost of a policy. These include taking an advanced driving course, adding a named driver to a policy and getting a telematics insurance for young driver's policy.
