Cost of living hitting insurance customersA study by Sainsbury's Finance has revealed some people believe that there is simply no such thing as cheap car insurance or, for that matter, cheap insurance of any kind. Reporting a worrying trend, the research claimed that 21.9 million UK people are choosing not to purchase potentially vital insurance, with 13% of these consumers saying they had done so because of prohibitive costs. Many speculate that the phenomenon may get worse, as the cost of living rose by an alarming 4.2% in the October to November period this year. It seems hard times can cause people to behave pretty recklessly and even break the law. The study reports that 1.15 million UK residents, struggling to find what they would consider to be cheap car insurance, confess to driving without any form of motor insurance. The head of insurance at Sainsbury's Finance commented, "Research suggests that millions of people are playing Russian roulette by opting to do without. Those people finding it difficult to afford insurance due to the rising cost in living need to ensure that they shop around for the best cover because this can dramatically reduce price." He implied that going with an online car insurance company may be the best option to many UK consumers, saying, "They should also consider buying online because many providers offer an attractive discount for this."
