Police remind drivers of tint risk

Drivers who like to feel cool and inconspicuous while on the road by having tinted windows have been told that taking the tint too far risks financial penalty in the form of a £30 fine and the potential loss of their entitlement to cheap car insurance.

Newspaper The Northampton Chronicle reports that police, in response to a growing fad for excessively tinted windows in the area, have taken the opportunity to remind drivers that they are only allowed to make their front windows darker by 30% and their windscreens darker by 25%.

A Northamptonshire police constable commented, "We can deal with it in two ways. Either the owner will be given 14 days to remove the tint or will be given a fixed penalty notice with a £30 fine."

Although the police constable did not mention it, other media voices have commented that motor insurance companies will not take kindly to those who receive fixed penalty notices, possibily even limiting the availability of cheap car insurance to those who do so.
