Wife shops drink-driver out of cheap motor insurance quotes

A Bradford man has his estranged wife to thank for expensive motor insurance quotes - because she was the one who shopped him for drink driving.

The 53-year-old's former partner informed police that she had seen him drinking before setting off on his motorbike, after he paid her a visit in March 2007.

In court the hospital worker pleaded guilty to drink-driving, and as a result he was banned from the roads for 21 months and fined £300.

"Drink driving is unacceptable whatever the circumstances, and ultimately the people who do so deserve the higher motor insurance quotes they get," said Mike Page, spokesman for the cheap car insurance experts at Hoot Car Insurance Services.

"That said, I hope his wife did her best to persuade him not to do it before he set off," he added.

"It's far better to convince someone not to drink and drive than it is to catch them at it."
