Air ambulance for young driver trapped in mangled car

A young woman who had to be airlifted to hospital after she collided with another car near St Weonards in Herefordshire might see a hike in her motor insurance premiums next time she goes looking for car insurance for young drivers.

Local firefighters had to rip the mangled Nissan hatchback to pieces with heavy rescue gear to free her.

Then an emergency chopper arrived to take the 20-year-old to hospital, where she is undergoing treatment for a suspected hip injury.

An eight-year-old passenger from the other car, a Toyota estate, was also rushed away for treatment by ambulance.

Hoot spokesman Mike Page, an expert on car insurance for young drivers, said: "There's a lot of money involved in this case - clearly thousands of pounds' worth of damage done to both cars, not to mention the cost of damages if either party makes a personal injury claim.

"The most important thing is that both the young woman and the child recover in hospital. But at least one of the drivers involved is going to be heavily penalised by their car insurance companies next time they apply for a motor insurance quote."
