When buying young driver car insurance, inexperienced motorists are always told that statistically they are a major cause of car accidents and so their premiums are priced higher, yet older drivers can be just as menacing.
A 93-year-old Boston man recently mistook the accelerator for the brake on his car and drove straight into the front of a Wal-Mart store, injuring a mother who was pushing her baby girl in a buggy.
The mother and child were taken to hospital, along with the man's 90-year-old wife who was a passenger in the car. Three other people were treated in hospital for shock.
A local police officer reported that the driver had been looking for a parking space outside the store, but lost control of his Toyota Camry as he did so.
The car hit two cash registers, and whilst there was little structural damage to the shop building, the damages were estimated at around $50,000 to $60,000.
A store spokesperson said, "We were fortunate that there weren't more injuries."
A spokesperson for Hoot commented, "As for all motorists, building up a no-claims bonus will lead to cheaper young driver car insurance quotes in the future. This older driver will find his renewal premium increases greatly, that is if he isn't disqualified for careless driving."
