The Perodua Kelisa and young driver car insurance
What if your dad said he would buy you a brand new car and buy your young driver car insurance with it? You'd jump at the chance, wouldn't you?
According to Mike Rutherford, writing for Telegraph.co.uk, the Perodua Kelisa 1.0 EX five-door is officially the cheapest new car in the UK, and at £4,499 delivered, it qualifies quite convincingly.
However, (there's always a however) it's in a group 3 car insurance bracket, Group C Road tax banding and only carries a two year/24,000 mile warranty.
Predicted depreciation of the Kelisa is also pretty steep; losing almost three quarters of its new price in three years. That means you might be able to get just over a grand back after a stint at Uni.
Mr Rutherford highlights how cheap it is to run, but doesn't really discuss its looks. There is a reason for this.
And to top the article off he suggests, "You can run this little car-about-town for half a decade, then give it away to a grateful young first-time driver at the end of your five-year ownership/usership experience and it will have cost you all of £2.50 a day to buy, own and dispose of."
As a young driver car insurance provider who knows that young motorists have certain standards, I suggest that a five year-old Kelisa may not be the car of choice.
