Motorists who have recently passed their driving test and have taken out a young driver car insurance policy are amongst drivers who have been urged to stay aware of deer on the roads.
According to a report, experts believe that numbers of deer have more than doubled over the past ten years, meaning that more deer are roaming onto roads and potentially causing car accidents.
October and November are the mating season for deer, and motorists have been advised to watch out for the animals as they are likely to run out into roads regardless of traffic.
The Deer Initiative, a group of charities and Government agencies responsible for controlling the number of deer in the UK, have estimated that more than 42,000 car accidents last year were due to deer.
Dr. Jochen Langbein, project leader has stated that the accident figures could be as high as 74,000, but many incidents go unreported.
Dr. Langbein said, "The Autumn peak is between about now and the end of November, especially at this time because we have the change in daylight savings when the rush hour suddenly clashes with dawn and dusk when the deer are most active."
Holders of car insurance for new drivers, as well as experienced drivers, should always stay alert when they are behind the wheel to reduce the risks of being involved in a car accident and having to make a claim on their young driver car insurance.
