Future young driver car insurance buyers in Lincolnshire will hopefully benefit from a theatre trip organised by the Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership.
The show, part of the 2fast2soon road safety initiative, will be presented at venues in Grantham, Stamford, Spalding, Lincoln and Louth in an attempt to reduce the number of young drivers involved in road traffic accidents.
Around 220 students from Kesteven and Sleaford High School will be attending the production at North Hykeham's Terry O'Toole Theatre on October 13 and 14.
Records show that in 2007, 99 young drivers aged between 17-24 years-old were killed or received serious injury in Lincolnshire road accidents.
The production includes music from a local rock group and a series of speakers giving frank testimony regarding their involvement in serious or fatal car accidents in the region.
Speakers include a police traffic officer, a paramedic, a fire and rescue officer, a consultant surgeon/medical specialist, a car crash victim and a member of the victim's immediate family.
The 2fast2soon scheme will then be followed up in schools with workshops and practical young driver training sessions. These will hopefully highlight key issues of the theatre event.
Greville Burgess, Principal Road Safety Coordinator said: "Whilst road safety is the responsibility of everyone who use our roads, there can be no argument that young drivers, particularly those who have recently passed their driving test, are most at risk. 2fast 2soon is an innovative way of supporting young drivers by providing them with the skills and knowledge to both enjoy their driving and reduce the risk of becoming a casualty statistic."
A spokesperson for Hoot, the young driver car insurance specialist, commented, "Road safety initiatives like 2fast2soon have the potential to save lives. They are sadly a necessity for today's teenagers and will always be welcome."
