Uni students warned to check young driver car insurance
As students head back to university this month they are being warned that their young driver car insurance costs could rise steeply.
Price comparison website moneysupermarket.com estimate that student car insurance premiums could rise as much as £1,300 per vehicle.
The rise is attributed to car parking; at home many young drivers are able to garage their cars at their parent's suburban house or park them off-road on the driveway.
Once at university, however, many students will have to park their vehicle on the street, often in city centre locations, thus increasing the risk of theft.
Peter Gerrard, of moneysupermarket.com, explained, "Students taking their cars to university must ensure they have the correct insurance and amend their policy where necessary; cost-conscious students may want to think twice about taking their car with them.
"For those that do want to get behind the wheel whilst at university I advise them to shop around for the most competitive policy possible."
A Hoot spokesperson said, "Changes in your circumstances will affect your young driver car insurance. We endeavour to find you the cheapest quote possible whatever your young driver requirements."
