Insurance providers often charge masses

Teenagers thinking of learning to drive might be put off by news that the combined costs of taking the tests and obtaining young driver car insurance can be more than £8,000.

Inexperienced motorists are generally expected to pay around £1,000 for a series of 45 driving lessons. They will then have to shell out up to £8,000 for young person's car insurance.

A Shropshire resident said, "It is tempting people not to insure their cars, that's the worry. Kids can pick up a car for a few hundred pounds but it's the running costs that are so expensive."

Thankfully there are a vast amount of youngsters who wouldn't dream of heading out on the open road without insurance.

A driving instructor from Telford, said, "Insurance is a lot to fork out on top of lessons but it's something drivers will do."

Another driving instructor agreed that the high costs of student car insurance wouldn't deter people from hitting the road.

Those individuals who are keen on saving money should consider the option of an intensive course of lessons and pay as you drive car insurance.

An individual who passes after intensive training possibly won't have had to pay as much and young driver car insurance on a pay as you go scheme may well be cheaper.
