Young driver car insurance costs more than most carsMany first time buyers will end up spending more on a year's young driver car insurance than on the cars themselves, according to Sundaymirror.co.uk. The newspaper website says car insurance premiums have risen a staggering 92 percent in the past ten years for 17 to 21-year-olds. For men, that brings the average price of young driver car insurance to almost £2,000 - considerably more than most can afford to spend on a first car. Newly-qualified drivers looking to reduce both costs should opt for vehicles with a low insurance group rating, according the Mirror. These are generally less expensive to buy and promise cheaper car insurance premiums to boot. Mike Page, spokesman for the online car insurance specialists at Hoot Car Insurance Services, said: "The rising cost of motoring means today's new drivers don't have much choice when it comes to picking a car. Sadly, nothing but a small engine and a small price tag will do."
