Young driver makes room for rabbit in his car

Wonder if the security guard who found a rabbit under the bonnet of his Ford Mondeo will ask for pet cover the next time he gets a quote on car insurance for young drivers?

Jon Llewlyn, from Nailsworth in Gloucestershire, first spotted the bunny hopping cutely about beside his parked car - but he drove away without realising it had decided to hitch a ride.

On returning home, Llewlyn noticed a foreign body had apparently got caught up in his front grill. On closer inspection, it turned out to be the fluffy head of the rabbit.

It had survived the journey intact, and a bemused Llewlyn was happy to leave the furry stowaway to hop back off into the undergrowth.

Or so he thought. In fact, the wretched creature he would come to know as 'Bugsy' camped out in the Mondeo's engine cavity for another several days - and 60 miles of driving.

In the end, he had an AA man strip his engine down to the gearbox so that the offending fluff could be removed.

"He travelled a fair bit," said a clearly distressed Llewlyn.

Hoot spokesperson Mike Page, an expert in the field of car insurance for young drivers, said: "I wonder if other Mondeo drivers have had similar problems?

"I'm not sure if a tendency to attract rabbits will affect Llewlyn's motor insurance premium," he added. "It'll probably just get his goat."
