Teenager found guilty of fatal crash

One female driver is going to struggle to find cheap young driver insurance after being found guilty of causing the fatal crash that killed her boyfriend.

The 18-year-old driver, who had failed her driving test three times, was driving along a country road at 67mph at night with no lights on when her car clipped another vehicle, sending it veering off the road and into a tree.

The young driver then lied to police telling them that her 17-year-old boyfriend, who was killed in the car accident, had been driving.

The Leeds University student eventually admitted causing death by careless driving and having no insurance but escaped with a nine-month suspended sentence, a three-year driving ban, and a three-month curfew.

Speaking at the trial, the judge commented that young people do not realise how dangerous cars are, saying, "They are full of self-confidence but they do not have the experience that comes with maturity."

Once the girl returns to driving, she is likely to find it hard to find cheap young driver car insurance.
