Teenager crashes in 100mph police chase

A tearaway teenager who failed to buy young driver insurance was found to be at fault in a series of car crashes after a high speed 100mph police pursuit.

The 18-year-old - a learner driver - was sentenced to a year and half imprisonment term at a young offenders institution as a result of his dangerous driving.

At the man's crown court trial, the judge said it was a miracle no-one had been killed during the wrecking spree along motorways around Leeds.

  • First, he hit a Vauxhall Astra that was forced into a central reservation barrier.

  • Then, he drove at high-speed towards oncoming traffic.

  • Next, he smashed into a Renault Clio, injuring the driver, after speeding through red traffic lights.

  • Finally, he sped off at 100 mph trying to evade police before they successfully boxed him in and forced him to stop.

The teenager, a new learner driver, pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking and driving without young driver insurance or valid licence.
